My Hair: The Big Chop....Sorta
Two weeks ago, I straightened my hair for an audition I had. It was the first time that I straightened my hair since May. & let me tell you, it was a struggle. My hair was so unhealthy, when my mom ran the hot comb through it, it sounded like crunching leaves or biting an apple. That was the final straw. Something had to give. I decided to chop 2 inches of my hair and start over (more or less).
Let me give a lil history on my hair. I've been natural all my life. People have different definitions of what natural really means. Well my natural means I never put any chemicals in my hair. I mean, I dyed my hair once. But the bottom line is I never had a perm/relaxer/etc. So now that there's a movement in black America where natural hair is the "thing" and there's all kinds of how to videos and products and such, I was adamant on doing me. I mean, I got along all these 21 years without their help so why do I need these girls just hoppin on the natural train to tell me how to take care of my hair?
WELP. I was wrong. I wasn't taking care of my hair & I haven't for the last 21 years! I always wanted it to grow long but it wouldn't go past a certain length! I used shampoo every time I washed my hair, I combed my hair to detangle it, I wasn't moisturizing my hair every day, everything was just a
So I promptly got my life. I stopped using my shampoo. I condition my hair just about every other day. I use extra virgin organic olive oil and coconut oil. I deep condition my hair with almond oil. So now my hair looks a whole lot healthier & shinier & I'm so excited for growth! I got a little curly top afro goin' right now but
Stay tuned for unhealthy hair v. newly healthy hair pics!

What type of conditioner, anytype? What do you use?
ReplyDeleteshea moisture conditioner. I'm conditioning my hair every two days. then I use almond oil as a deep conditioner. I rub that in my hair and leave it in for 30 minutes under a shower cap then I wash it out.
ReplyDeleteI use extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil every night. b/c I'm just learning about what works for my hair, I'm not sure if that's too much or not. But so far, it's working!
